Description
The Garmin GDL 39 is a top of the line and cost effective solution to receive ADS-B “In” capabilities only. This unit is for the aera 79x. With this unit you have access to subscription-free Flight Information Service-Broadcast (FIS-B) weather information over the FAA’s 978 MHz Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) uplink, “dual link” traffic with TargetTrend and TerminalTraffic technology (require compatible displays), and a built-in WAAS GPS Receiver. You can easily access animated NEXRAD radar, METARs, TAFs, winds and temperatures aloft, PIREPs, NOTAMs and more right on your compatible Garmin Aviation portable or through the Garmin Pilot app on your iPad or Android device.
The GDL 39 3D (the 3D model has an additional cost and provides more features than the GDL 39) adds attitude and SVX in Garmin Pilot for Apple mobile devices, aera 660 or 796/795. Wireless Bluetooth connectivity is also available with the Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight Mobile apps, area 660 or 796/795.
The GDL 39 can provide highly accurate WAAS GPS data, while the GDL 39 3D can also provide backup attitude indication and SVX synthetic vision view.
To maximize available traffic information for the display, the aircraft should also be equipped with a compliant ADS-B “Out” solution like the GDL 88 or GTX 330ES/33/23 ES transponders with a compatible WAAS position source.
